I know first hand how bad chewing tobacco can be. I used to use it more than regularly and it quickly caught up to me when I started to get receding and thinning gums around my teeth. Since then I've had 5 separate surgeries to basically reconstruct my gums and one surgery formed a blood clot that ruptured and caused me to lose 2 pints of blood in my sleep. Long story short, since then I have quit and tell nearly everyone I see who uses chewing tobacco why they shouldn't do it and my story scares the heck out of them and a lot of people usually take their dip right out afterwards.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who does this and I hate it. He doesn't seem like he wants to stop and I think it is actually causing a lisp. I am nervous for his health. I want to have him quit so maybe I will show him this blog as well as buy him some seeds. Good information overall.
ReplyDeleteI've tried dip only a couple times back in high school and it wasn't for me. I never liked the light headed feeling it gave me and it made my mouth taste really bad. Now, if I even get a whiff of dip I start feeling sick. I didn't know that you could get pancreatic cancer from dip or that it was that much worse with the nicotine content compared to regular cigarettes. I heard that theres fiberglass in the dip and it cuts your lips, like micro tears which allow for the nicotine to get into your blood stream. Is that true?
ReplyDeletePersonally, I would never be in a relationship with a person that dips. I think it is disgusting and couldn't imagine kissing a guy that does that. I know it is common on college sports teams, but judging by the risks that were mentioned, I don't see it being beneficial to the athlete's health. I have also seen the dramatic pictures and heard the horror stories first hand of what it does to a person, and I think to myself, would somebody honestly do that after seeing the effects? I am strongly biased, but I just think it is gross.
ReplyDeletePersonally, i have tried a few times, I have smoked cigarettes on occasion as well. All tobacco products have a negative influence and outcomes. For people who use and continue to use tobacco products will have many of those life threatening symptoms listed above in Brendan's blog.
